"Pyhä Anna kolmantena" - postimerkki ja Lorenzo Lotton maalaus

Englannin Kuninkaallinen Postilaitos on julkaissut joulun kunniaksi postimerkkisarjan Madonnasta ja Jeesus-lapsesta. Yksi kuudesta merkistä on jäljennös Mughal-taiteesta 1600-luvun Intiasta. Alkuperäinen taideteos on Mumbaissa museossa. Se esittää klassista aihetta, joka Suomen kirkkotaiteessa tunnetaan nimellä "Pyhä Anna kolmantena" - Jeesus-lapsi, Neitsyt Maria ja Marian äiti Pyhä Anna, ja usein joku palvoja, länsimaissa tavallisesti pyhimyshahmo.

Britannian hindut ovat niin sanotusti vetäneet herneen nenäänsä postimerkin takia. He väittävät, että vaikka alkuperäinen maalaus olisikin intialainen, tällä vuosisadalla hindujen esittäminen palvomassa Jeesus-lasta on "tunteetonta". Britannian Hindu-forum ei tyydy vain valittamaan, he ovat ohjelmoimassa melkoista protestikampanjaa.

The Hindu Forum of Britain has asked Hindu communities across UK to protest in the following way:

1. Write a letter of protest and send it to Royal Mail Headquarters 148 Old Street LONDON EC1V 9HQ T without affixing a postage stamp. The Hindu Forum hopes that hundreds of letters will be sent in this way clogging the local post office where the letters will be accumulated for collection, thus causing a logistical nightmare worse than withdrawing the stamp.

2. Send a letter of protest by email to press.office@royalmail.com

3. Send a letter of protest by email to Barry Gardiner MP, Minister for Efficiency at the Department of Trade and Industry who is responsible for Royal Mail to gardinerb@parliament.uk Barry Gardiner is a good friend of the Hindu community and will certainly take note of Hindu sentiments!

3. Stop buying the offensive stamp when sold by a Post Office counter and insist on another stamp of similar denomination

4. Write to your local MP explaining why they should ask the Post Office to withdraw the stamp

5. Ask all your friends and relatives to send letters of protest without affixing postage stamps. Each individual can even send ten or more letters to increase the volume of mail reaching the post office without stamps.

6. Take part in the mass protest march that will be announced at a suitable time if Royal Mail continue their refusal to withdraw the stamp.

Voimakas närkästys on hivenen yllättävää. Intiassa hindulaisuus ja kristinusko ovat eläneet varsin sopuisasti rinnakkain vuosisatoja. Jeesus ja Maria on hyväksytty osaksi hindu-pantheonia ja Goassa kristityt, muslimit ja hindut elävät samasa yhteiskunnassa ja toimivat sopuisasti yhdessä. Taiteessa molemmin puolin on otettu vaikutteita. Tämän päivän fundamentalisti-uskonnollisuus on ilmeisesti saamassa otteen yhä uusista uskonnoista. Sääli.
