Mira Markovic, Slobodan Milosevicin leski

Slobodan Milosevicin leski on ilmeisesti Moskovassa. Miten hän mahtaa tästä eteenpäin elää? Slobo ja Mira olivat suorastaan autistisen toisiinsa kiintynyt pari kouluajasta asti. Todistajien mukaan he eivät kouluaikana irrottaneet toistensa käsistä hetkeksikään. Molemmilla oli taustassaan perhetragedia. Slobodanin perhe oli maanisdepressiivisiä. Ensin setä, sitten isä ampuivat itsensä haulikolla. Lopulta äiti hirttäytyi.

Miran äiti Vera oli partisaani. Natsit saivat hänet kiinni 1942. Toisten mukaan hän paljasti kumppaninsa kidutuksessa, mutta natsit tappoivat hänet. Toisten mukaan Miran äidinisä antoi teloittaa tyttärensä petturina. Miran isä tunnusti tyttärensä vasta viisitoistavuotiaana.

Mira Markovicin tavaramerkiksi tuli kirkkaanvärinen muovikukka tai nauha, jota hän piti mustaksi värjätyssä tukastaan. Väitetään, että Mira löysi valokuvan äidistään. Äidillä oli kuvassa tekokukka hiuksissaan. Sen jälkeen Mira käytti samanlaista koristetta.

Days before Serbia lurched into a disastrous air war with Nato in May 1999, Slobodan Milosevic was in an agony of indecision over whether to confront the alliance or back down. A seven-hour briefing with doubting generals had not persuaded him either way, but then the president's hand reached for the telephone connecting him to his wife, Mirjana. The dumpy figure in black was soon marching into the room, dismissing in seconds the generals' fears about war. "Rubbish," she snapped. "We go to war."

Kirjoittaako tässä valtion päämiehen vaimo vai kiukustunut koulutyttö?

Slavenka Draculic kirjoittaa kirjassaan "Eivät tekisi pahaa kärpäsellekään", että serbit pettyivät ja raivostuivat, kun Slobodan kesysti antautui sen sijaan, että hän olisi kaatunut taistellen tai surmannut itsensä. Slobon perhe oli samaa mieltä:

"One should understand it was like a Shakespearean tragedy, with all these elements of chaos," Grubacic said. "I talked to this young guy who was there. They were totally insane. Milosevic was all the time pointing his gun at his head, saying: `I'll commit suicide. I'll kill Mira and Marija,' waving with the gun. This is very Macbeth kind of stuff."

Daughter reacted angrily

Wife and daughter, for their part, "were trying to convince Milosevic not to go to prison, as I understood from those who were there," Grubacic said. "So when he went to the car to leave the compound, (Marija) came out screaming. She was yelling to her father, basically, `You cannot go to prison, better kill yourself,' this kind of stuff. It was completely insane, and then she shot" her gun -- without hitting anyone.

"Anyway, Mira was known as not so fantastically stable a person, and (as for) Marija, it is known that after Oct. 5 (when Milosevic was ousted from power), she had a nervous breakdown, and she was taken to a military hospital, and then basically she spent three days being tied to the bed."

Siksi kysyn vieläkin: Miten Mira Markovic tästä lähtien elää? Mafiapoikansa tai gangsterityttärensä hyväksi? Slobodanin muistolle? Miten?
