Virallinen Kungfutse

Vasemmalla luonnos "viralliseksi Kungfutseksi" - oikealla maalaus, johon sen pitäisi perustua

Kiina on nopeasti muuttumassa. Mao on unohdettu - Pekka Mykkäsen ("Kiina rynnistää huipulle, Nemo 2004") Maon synnyinkaupungin vierastalo on muutettu bordelliksi. Den Xiaoping on unohdettu johtohahmona. Kiinan nykyjohtajat pitävät aika kasvotonta profiilia.

Henkilökultin luvatussa maassa johto on levoton. He aikovat syyskuussa julkistaa virallisen Kungfutsen kuvan.

"A symbol of Chinese history and culture, Confucius is widely known around the world. A standard portrait is needed so that different countries could have the same image of him," said CCF general secretary Zhang Shuhua.

Kiinan nykynuoriso ei välttämättä niele määräyksiä. China Dailyn Raimond Zhou kirjoittaa:

The China Confucius Foundation will create this visual rendering "with advice from Confucian scholars, historians, artists and his descendants," and unveil it during the September celebration of his 2557th birthday.

None of them has seen Confucius or his likeness except the earliest painting of him by Wu Daozi of the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), on which the standard portrait will reportedly be based.

But Wu and Confucius lived more than 1,000 years apart. His painting at best incorporated written descriptions from an earlier time, or was most likely a work of his own imagination.

The disturbing thing is not that the foundation wants to issue a portrait that it touts as "standard," but that it wants to stamp out all other images of the Great Sage because it claims they "will severely harm his good aura and personal charisma and will hinder the propagation of his thoughts."

Joitakin syyskuun jälkeen sopimattomia tulkintoja Kungfutsesta:

Melkoisesti samannäköinen miekkonen, mikä ei ole ihme, jos kaikki perustuvat samaan kuvaan. Erojakin kuitenkin on. Ylhäällä vasemmalla on saksalaisen oppineen tulkinta 1800-luvulta. Ylhäällä oikealla on patsas New Yorkin Chinatownissa. Vasemmalla alhaalla olevan kuvan voisi helposti sekoittaa kuvaan Kiinan ensimmäisestä keisarista ja alhaalla oikealla voisi olla Kublai Kaani. (Ja eikö se Chinatown-patsas voisi esittää Petjaa?) Eroja kuitenkin on.

Kungfutse olisi todennäköisesti hyväksynyt Raymondin näkökannan mieluummin kuin CCF:n. Hän hyväksyi erot ihmisten välillä:

One tale may be taken as an illustration of his consideration of differences. Zi Lu asked him a question, "When we hear a good proposal, should we put it into practice at once?". "You should always first ask someone with more experience," Ran You, another sutdent asked Confucius the same question. To him Confucius replied, "Of course you should put it into practice at once." A third student who had heard both answers, puzzled by their apparent contradiction, asked Confucius about it."Ran You always hesitates when making a decision," the sage said. "Therefore he should be encouraged to be bolder. Zi Lu tends to make hasty decisions. Therefore he should be reminded to be cautious. It's only natural that different people should get different answers".
